City of Oxford 4 – Ramgarhia 3
After successive defeats Ramgarhia HC 1st XI needed a win to propel them from the bottom of the table into the middle of the pack – it was not to be.
The game began quite openly with quite a bit of space for both teams and although Ramgarhia were using this to theiradvantage and pressurising the City of Oxford goal, the opposition managed to break the defence with a simple and open goal.
Ramgarhia kept the attacks coming thick and fast but yet more misfortune crept in in the way of a sloppy goal and some shameless defending by Gurmeet Jhita (Blonkey) and Mandip Mahal (Mango).
After a heated team talk at half time Ramgarhia began the second half with more attacks which resulted in a short corner goal from Parmi Soor. With great play from both the midfield and forward line – Jas Dhamu produced some outstanding left-wing penetration and inter-changing play.
Well into the second half a short corner was awarded to City. A well defended corner resulted in a quick break and Ramgarhia had virtually an open goal which Manjit Gahir took with ease. It was 2-2. Ramgarhia was playing excellent hockey and City where determined not to let them score. However, some more skillful play from the forward line resulted in a third goal for Ramgarhia.
The next 15 minutes resulted in a mayhem of squandered chances and yellow cards. Manjit missed an open goal which would have sealed the game the player/manager hit the side of the goal!!
City piled on the pressure and for about 10 minutes the ball was kept in the Ramgarhia half with a devastating blow in the way of an equalizer.
Yellow cards for Parmi Soor, Manjit Sian and Mandip Mahal were enough to put the game into City’s way. But 5 minutes from the end of the game the umpire awarded a dubious penalty stroke against Gurmeet Jhita (Blonkey). City were not to make any mistakes this time and cleanly finished the stroke and that was the final blow to a game which offered great chances and misfortune to Ramgarhia.
