Marlow 2 – Ramgarhia 4

Ramgarhia travelled to Bisham Abbey to play Marlow.

The travelling party was larger than usual – and not just because Tandeep was present. In attendence were the legendary Ranbir Girn with family, Plaha and Sachpal.

During the warm up stretches, it was noticed that Bahader, Jas Pattowala and Manj Gahir had all dissapeared into the bushes togther. What went on behind the bushes has been the subject of much speculation, but no answers have yet come to light.

Marlow were first out of the blocks and the first on the score sheet. Ramgarhia then upped their game, and pressed Marlow back into their own half of the pitch. The pressure paid off as Bahader pounced on a chance to equalise for Ramgarhia. Ramgarhia’s pressing kept on causing Marlow problems, and when Marlow lost the ball in their 25, Nik was on hand to slam the ball into the net and give Ramgarhia a 2-1 lead going into half time.

At the back, the two Manjit’s were holding firm. Manj Gahir in particular was having a fine game. It is rumoured that Shahid Afridi modelled his swing and technique for hitting sixers on Manj’s 16 yard hits. Indeed, Ramgarhia are fortunate that Manj has so far rejected lucrative offers from the PGA tour as a challenger to Tiger Woods. But Manj’s clearances were exemplary in their power and ground-hugging accuracy, and often got the defence out of trouble at crucial times.

Shortly into the second half a short corner was controversially awarded to Marlow and they took the opportunity to level the scores at 2-2. Ramgarhia were not disheartened, and redoubled their efforts. Ramgarhia won a short corner, from which Jas Pattowala rocked the backboard with a strong push. While the rest of the Ramgarhia team celebrated at taking the lead, Jas ran back to the looking very serious. When Ramgarhia won another short corner, Jas was at hand to repeat the trick to give Ramgarhia a two goal lead. Again Jas’ face showed no emotion – whether this is due to what happened behind the bushes pre-match with Bahader and Manj is open to discussion.

Ramgarhia held on to secure a 4-2 victory. The boys would like to thank Tandeep, the Plahas and Ranbir with family for their support. Also special thanks to Randeep and Harkirat, who were on hand to give the squad some depth.
